On a remote outpost a team of Starship Troopers are pursued by Arachnids to this deserted place. Where a prisoner is guarded.
A traitor to the Federation, or was he a hero framed for a crime he didn't commit.
But trapped with Arachnids outside and a new form of spy bug inside. The Puppet Master Bug, these parasite insects take
over the body and kill the host. One by one the Troopers fall prey to the Puppet Master Bugs and if not stopped they plan
to infiltrate the Earth to learn our battle plans.
I noticed that this plays out more like a horror movie then sci-fi. The Puppet Master Bugs are kind of like the worm monsters
in NIGHT OF THE CREEPS and SLITHER. The cast does a pretty good job, but I was kind of disappointed with how it went this
go round, the first movie was action and character driven. This was more atmosphere and you never know who is really a bug.
Disappointed yes, hated it? No. I got to admit, the new spin on the franchise is unique and I love the design of the Puppet
Master Bug. In the first movie, all the insect monsters had names. Arachnids, Tankers and Brain Bugs. But I had to name these
bugs and that was slightly lazy for the screenwriter not to think of Puppet Master Bug. All and all this movie earns a solid
I agree, it wasn't really the same format. Sure, they had the propaganda spots like in the first movie, but it didn't feel
like it was a sequel. They went a total different direction. 7 STARS
ON THE POSITIVE SIDE (+ HITS):
+ PUPPET MASTER BUG (A new bug design is cool.)
+ STORY (All thought different from the first film is kind of cool.)
+ SCARY (The you never know whose your friend and whose not is creepy.)
+ ACTING (The acting was first rate.)
+ EFFECTS (The effects are kind of cool.)
ON THE NEGATIVE SIDE (- MISSES):
- NEW BUG, NO NAME (I don't recall then giving the bug a name, I think I called it the Puppet Master Bug. E-Mail me if I'm
- DIFFERENT (VOLTRON felt they shouldn't have had it more horror and stuck to the format of the first flick.)
- FAN BASED (Fans of the first movie may not like the direction this one goes.)
