THE PLOT:
In the year 2000 the Earth is invaded by creatures from space, creatures called Pychlos. Earth feel under their mighty boots
and became a slave planet. 1,000 years later Earth is still a slave planet still under the boot of the psychlos.
A rebellion starts to form in the ranks of the incredibly stupid human slaves. Terl is planning to earn brownie points
with his superiors by secretly building a planet busting beam to destroy an enemy world.
ZEDD'S OPINION:
Now since John Travolta produced this movie and they said it was a project near to his heart I'm sure he stayed loyal to the
book, which isn't a good in this case. I mean why did it take a thousand years to orginize a resistence, the French would
have been blowing the crap out of Psychlo bases and supply depots and stuff like that. Plus, why was the people so stupid.
It's not all bad, I love the effects, the whole atmosphere really looked like the Earth was enslaved for a thousand years.
Plus, without giving it away, I love the ending. It's not as bad as some say, but I think it could have been better. Much
better. I'm no fan of L. Ron Hubbart, and I don't believe science should be worshipped. If you are a Scientologist, I'm
not judging, it's between you and God, but it looks to me that Hubbart was just as bad at writing sci-fi as he was organizing
religion. I give BATTLEFIELD EARTH....6 STARS
VOLTRON'S OPINION:
I couldn't agree more. Travota was good, but he's always good as the bad guy. Ever since BROKEN ARROW, he makes a fun villian.
He enjoys being evil, which I'm not sure is a good thing. Anyway, I also agree with the flaws of the movie. I know I could
bow down without a fight. Mankind would rather die and be out of it's misery, then to become slaves, they should have at
least mentioned other slave revolts, even if they failed it should have happened. I give this movie allot lower grade then
ZEDD, I give BATTLEFAIL EARTH...1 1/2 STARS.
ON THE POSITIVE SIDE (+ HITS):
+ ATMOSPHERE (It really looked like the year 3,000)
+ MAKE UP EFFECTS (The effects were pretty realistic.)
+ JOHN TRAVOTA (Always a good villian.)
+ CLIMAX (Without giving it away, it was gorgeous.)
ON THE NEGATIVE SIDE (- MISSES):
- NO REBELLION BEFORE NOW (1,000 years of enslavement and there was no other rebellions for this?)
- STUPID HUMANS (The human characters were so moronic. Yet, they picked up flying something complicated like F-15 fighter
jets in seconds.)
- 1,000 YEAR OLD JETS (It's amazing me how 1,000 year old jets worked after sitting around for 1,000 years. How could
these idoits with no knowledge of Jet Engines fix them?)
...AND FINALLY...
- FAN BASED (If you're no fan of Travota, then this isn't for you.)
