THE PLOT:

Dr. Russell Marvin heads up Operation Skyhook, which is tasked with sending rockets into the upper atmosphere to probe for future space flights. Unfortunately, all the rockets are somehow disappearing.

While investigating this strange occurrence, Russell and his new assistant/wife Carol Marvin are abducted by a flying saucer. The aliens claim to be from Mars and demand to meet with Certain people in order to negotiate. But it was a trick, the Martains only wanted to kill them.

The invasion has begun and if Russell and Carol can't find a way to stop these creatures and get past their defenses, it may be the end of the human race.

ZEDD'S OPINION:

Here is a true classic in every sense of the word. It has great effects, the storyline works. So much so, that TIM BURTON steals a good portion of it in his send up of the invasion movie MARS ATTACKS. But I digress, the creature effects are very cool. I kind of wish I saw more of the alien without the helmet other then the dead one. But what can you do. Also, effects genius Ray Harryhausen does a great job. I just wish he never retired. Ray, there are still plenty of low budget movies you can save the only way your can. VILE 21 may not have been so vile if you were doing the stop motion. Hell, even WAR OF THE PLANETS could have been better if they you. Save the B-Movie like you did the first time. Anyway, the perfect Saturday night treat for the kids. EARTH VS. THE FLYING SAUCERS gets 10 STARS!

VOLTRON'S OPINION:

For the most part I agree with Zedd, espially about Ray saving new B-Movies. But I do have something to complain about. The movie takes it's sweet time getting going, it's slow. Like allot of fifties movies. Slow, not so slow it get's boring. Like other movies I can mention. But it starts out slow and I have to mention that point. I give EARTH VS. THE FLYING SAUCERS...9 STARS

+ STORY (The invasion story always works.)
+ CAST (The cast does a great job.)
+ EFFECTS (This is how you make a great movie on a low budget. Filmmakers, take NOTES!)
+ CREATURES (For the most part pretty damn cool!)

ON THE POSITIVE SIDE (+ HITS):

ON THE NEGATIVE SIDE (- MISSES):

- MORE (I wish we could have seen more of the aliens without the helmets.)

...AND FINALLY...

- SLOW (The movie needs a push start at the beginning, but when it gets going. It doesn't stop.)
